Why Use NEMo

NEMo is a simple software tool to test your environment for “acceleration readiness”. After using NEMo, Gear6 generates a graphical report that estimates the acceleration benefits of the CACHEfx appliance with your specific environment.

How NEMo Works

The NEMo data collector runs on a production system to characterize the NFS workload between a client and an NFS server or storage system. The collector is a simple PERL script that utilizes tcpdump and nfsstat, two standard Unix/Linux tools, to record NFS operations. This enables a detailed and accurate assessment of I/O traffic and the potential for caching data. NEMo only collects NFS commands, not file data, ensuring no confidential data is contained in the output. Running NEMo has minimal client impact and does not disrupt applications.

Using NEMo

The process is very simple:

• Download and run the script on an application server/NFS client
  Save the file to a directory accessible by root and mark it as executable with 'chmod a+x<filename>.
• Send the output file to Gear6 for analysis.
• Receive acceleration report from Gear6 within 48 hours.
